Here we are in the fourth week of term already and its lining up to be another busy fun packed one! Carrying on with our Smartstart project our learning focus for this week will be about exploring and discovering where our food comes from and choosing, preparing and tasting different foods. We are planning on taking a little walk down the back steps through the park to Tesco. (You will all receive a consent form for this, we can’t take your child without one) The boys and girls will then get to choose some fruit, veg and other food to take back to playgroup where they will help us to prepare and eat it! (We will steer them carefully away from the sweetie aisle). We will talk about where the food they choose comes from, if its from an animal, a plant, the sea or soil and have a look a map of the world.
We would also love it if any parents would like to come in and cook or bake their favourite food in Playgroup, just speak to a member of staff to arrange.
Our home corner will be a Chinese restaurant, we will provide some Chinese style dressing up clothes, chopsticks, menus, lanterns, a till with money and bank cards.
We will have some paper plates to sort out pictures of healthy and not so healthy food to help the children learn about healthy eating and what it means to them. We will cut out pictures of food from magazines for the boys and girls to make their own food pictures and are looking for some donations of old magazines that we can use for this. We would also ask you to bring in any used food wrappers to playgroup so we can find out what country it comes from.
We will fill up the big red tray with different shapes of pasta and string so they can practise a bit of threading and also make some pasta pictures.
We will be going through to nursery on Thursday to share a story about the Chinese New Year and outdoors we will have lots of active play (to keep warm!) and take out the footballs onto the field and the parachute.
Finally we will be holding our enrolment session on Tuesday 14th Feb. from 9.30-10.30 and Friday 17th from 9.30-10.30. This is for children who will be starting Pink Panther after Summer and next year. We would be grateful if you could let anyone who may be interested in a place know. For full details please look under Enrolment on this site or speak to a staff member.
