Learning Overview 12th June 2017

After a week of disruption due to our unexpected flooding, we are happily back to business for our third last week of term! We will be following a numeracy focus around having fun creating symmetrical pictures and patterns using a range of media. The children will recognise symmetrical pictures and have a go at making their own. There will be lots of paint to make some symmetrical butterflies and ladybirds and we will make some nice painty handprints too. We are looking for your empty egg boxes to make caterpillars which we can paint and decorate symmetrically. There will be lots of symmetrical puzzles, card games, peg and shape boards to play with and beads for threading to make their own patterns.

Our story of the week will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we will use this as inspiration when making our own caterpillars and ask the boys and girls to re-tell the story themselves and let their imaginations run wild! In the home corner we will let the children choose what toys they would like to play with and in the red tray there will be gloop where they can practice mark making and drawing patterns.

We will try to spend a lot of our time outdoors while the weather is nice and will take many of these activities out too. We will look for symmetry outdoors and use chalk to make patterns around the garden as well as the usual fun in the mud kitchen, sandpit and trikes.

Just a reminder regarding the sponsored walk which will now be held on Thursday 15th June. Usual session times apply and if you have any questions please speak to the staff.

This week we are also looking forward to welcoming parents/carers in for a wee visit to the playroom, this is a chance to chat to staff about your child, have a look at their folders containing their pictures and work from throughout the year and see what fun they have a playgroup!
